Welcome to my practice. My name is Tom and I am a 2nd generation therapist serving Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York. My background in Human Factors Psychology provides me with a unique perspective on human behavior that influences my clinical work to this day. I have a passion for what I do and enjoy bringing my own pragmatic style in my approach to therapy that I intertwine with a diverse background of theory, education, and field experience.

I have worked at virtually every level of care in the behavioral health field. I have served in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting, on a Community Support Team, in outpatient drug rehab, and I have served as both a clinical director and program director in outpatient community mental health services. In the past eight years I have enjoyed building my private practice here in Rhode Island as I have expanded to serving individuals and families in Massachusetts and New York.

If you are seeking individual therapy for anxiety, depression, paternal postpartum anxiety/depression, substance use, maladaptive stress responses, or work-stress, rest assured that I am both trained and experienced in these clinical areas. If you are seeking individual therapy for another reason, do not hesitate to request an initial consultation over the phone and we can determine if I am an appropriate fit for your circumstances.

If you are experiencing family conflict and are seeking help, it is important to find someone who is trained and experienced to fit your needs. My training in family dynamics began over 12 years ago when I worked as an intern in a psychiatric hospital setting. I worked as both a participant and researcher in military re-integration for the National Guard assisting families who were welcoming home a combat veteran and facing challenges in their home life. Later on, I worked diligently as an integrated dual-diagnosis specialist coordinating care for families concerned about the well-being of their loved ones. At Hazelden-Betty Ford I worked both in intensive outpatient programming and served as the liason for the family program where family members participated in both group therapy and psychoeducation classes designed for families with addiction. As an Outaptient Director in Massachusetts I spearheaded intervention training for families and served my own caseload both in an agency setting and private practice. I am formally trained in Strategic Family Therapy and highly value both the Gottman Method and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples counseling. As a life-long learner I am dedicated to adapting to the most contemporary best practices and consistently attend trainings and conferences related to both family and couples therapy as well as substance use treatment.
